We work with both agencies to prevent and reduce the risk of the virus in accordance with the CDC guidelines. Upon confirmation of the above positive test results, we follow a specific COVID-19 plan and move residents who have tested positive to specifically designated areas of the building based on their positive or pending test results and their symptoms. Additionally, we continue to follow our stringent infection prevention measures such as universal masking for our staff, masking requirements for residents while outside of their room, the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE), hand hygiene protocols, social distancing, and multiple screenings for temperature/symptoms of staff during each shift. Buildings are also conducting routine COVID-19 testing for staff.
This is a time of challenge with visitor restrictions set forth by the IDPH in early March and changing guidelines to accommodate the latest developments affected by the virus. We thank you for your extreme patience and understanding during this time.

Greetings, residents, families, and friends of Odd Fellow Rebekah Home.
We were informed today that an additional employee in our building has tested positive for COVID-19. We understand how this may cause you to worry about the health and safety of your loved one. Our leadership team has moved quickly to notify the Cole County Department of Public Health, and we will follow their protocol for additional infection prevention measures moving forward.
We continue to regularly assess residents’ temperatures, signs, and symptoms throughout the day, as well as employees at the start and middle of every shift. Infection control and prevention procedures are common and routine here at Odd Fellow Rebekah Home, however, heightened during this time. To attempt to control the spread of the virus, it is our continued recommendation to shelter in place.
As always, we are here to help our residents keep in touch with their loved ones through virtual visits using either Facetime or Skype. Please call us so we may help coordinate this. They love to hear from you!
We cannot thank this community enough for all your support, love, and prayers for our employees and residents. We ask that you continue to keep us in prayers. Hello to everyone. Well, June has arrived, and with that so has the summer heat and humidity. The good news is that we continue to report no new employee or resident cases and pray daily that the residents, yours, and our sacrificing will carry us safely through life during the COVID-19 pandemic. More good news that the governor announced the transition to the Phase 3/Recovery stage, and we have seen some restrictions eased.
While it is positive that this time has gone by with no new reported cases among our residents or staff, it provides us with only a small feeling of relief. COVID-19 is still present in our geographic area, so for this reason, we are going to remain steady with our protocols in coordination with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and IDPH to maintain the safety of our residents and the staff that care for them.
Another reminder that we arranged to have some window visits with our family members. The residents have thoroughly enjoyed the visits, and I believe the family members have as well. These “no contact” visits are from 10 am to 2 pm, Monday through Friday by appointment only. Please call (217) 235-5449 ext. 3055 if you would like to arrange a visit. We are allowing one visit per resident a week to accommodate all our residents the opportunity.

May 6, 2020
Hello to everyone. We have made it securely into May, and spring is all around us. Please forgive our lapse of communication over the last couple of weeks. The good news is that we continue to report no new employee or resident positive cases and pray daily that the residents and all of our sacrificing will carry us safely through life during the COVID-19 pandemic.
While it is encouraging that this time has gone by with no new reported cases among our residents or staff, it provides us with only a small feeling of relief. For this reason, despite a few warm days, we are going to remain steady with our protocols in coordination with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and IDPH to maintain the safety of our residents and the staff that care for them.
More good news is that this week we arranged to have some window visits with our family members. The residents were beyond ecstatic, and the family members were as well. We are so blessed to have an amazing maintenance department that made us a Plexiglas door to our gazebo area. These “no contact” visits are from 10 am to 2 pm, Monday through Friday by appointment only. Please call (217) 235-5449 ext. 3055 if you would like to arrange a visit. We are allowing one visit per resident a week to accommodate all our residents the opportunity.
As always, I thank you for the many well-wishes, masks, treats, and cheerful messages sent our way! Videos, craft projects, pictures, etc. can be sent via email to pshinholster@heritageofcare.com or by USPS, and we will gladly deliver. Please continue to keep your loved ones and us in your thoughts as we continue on this challenging road. I hope this week brings you blessings of love, joy, peace, and hope. Stay well!

As we look outside today here in Mattoon, I see the much-needed sunshine, blooming flowers, and the sound of the groundskeeper mowing the front grounds. Many sacrifices are occurring in our lives recently. Family and friends must be apart from each other to safely quarantine, some must work under strained conditions, while yet others are laid off. These are overarching concerns that disrupt normal feelings of content and safety.
While it is positive that a week has gone by with no new reported cases among our residents or staff, it provides us with only a small feeling of relief. As our leaders search for answers as to when we will be able to return to normal, there is still a concern for more cases to emerge. For this reason, despite a few warm days, we are going to remain steady with our protocols in coordination with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and IDPH to maintain the safety of our residents and the staff that care for them.
We continue to ask that you keep those well-wishes and cheerful messages coming! Videos, craft projects, pictures, etc. can be sent via email to pshinholster@heritageofcare.com or by USPS, and we will gladly deliver. May this week bring you blessings of love, joy, peace, and hope… and may it linger in your heart forever.
We are looking forward to the month of May! Until next time – stay safe – and be well.

Dear Family Members,
It is an ever-changing healthcare climate as the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) continues in our cities and across the country. We aim to keep you informed as new information that affects our residents materializes at Odd Fellow Rebekah Home regarding COVID-19.
We were informed that an employee in our building has tested positive for COVID-19. We understand how this may cause you to worry about the health and safety of your loved one. Our leadership team has moved quickly to notify the Coles County Department of Public Health, and we will follow their protocol for additional infection prevention measures moving forward.
- We are to continue to monitor residents every eight hours for temperature and symptoms. (A seven-day timeframe from exposure to symptom is the primary window of presenting symptoms after exposure.)
- Staff will continue to screen prior to the start of their work shift for their temperature and any symptoms.
New COVID-19 information is reported to us daily through the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). The plans that have been put in place thus far, such as restricting visitors, screening employees and the Universal Masking Policy were in an effort to keep the virus out of our building. We will continue with these measures for the same reasons.
We also post updates online through our website and/or Facebook page for additional access to our resident families. In addition, if we have determined that your loved one did have contact with the affected employee on the last shift worked, we will be contacting you directly.
We believe that communication is key to effectively educating and informing our residents, staff and the community about how we are taking precautions to protect the health of our residents and staff and prevent further spread of COVID-19.
Thank you for choosing us to care for the health of your loved one. Have peace of mind knowing that our Odd Fellow Rebekah team remains committed to caring for your loved one under all circumstances with great passion.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Gratefully,
David Standerfer
